I go back and forth about this place. There are some thing they do very well and some things aren't so good. I am not a fan of their eggrolls. They are overly greasy and I find myself falling asleep after eating them and waking up with crumbs and grease smeared on my face.. The general tsao chicken is legit. The portions are really, really big. The last time I ordered from here I had food for a few days. Which is saying a lot of you know me irl because I can eat my ass off.

Try their chicken steamed dumplings. Moving from Boston, which has amazing dumpling joints, to the MD area was a change in many ways. Although this place isn't amazing, these dumplings tend to hit the spot. The rest of their menu items are pretty decent, standard "Chinese" food. They also use a healthier cooking style which I also appreciate. I'm giving them two stars because one thing that drives me absolutely nuts is that they always forget to send utensils or chopsticks with delivery orders this has happened a few times already. It's not really a problem if you're getting food delivered at home. However, once I got it delivered at work because I was there late. I ended up eating dumplings with a plastic knife I had laying around and the soup, well...I just stared at... The driver's response was, "You should have asked for utensils." -_-

The food here is exceptional! I've eaten their food for years. The restaurant is ok too. My favorite dishes here are: Combination Fried Rice, Moo Shi Chicken, Double Cooked Pork, and Fried Dumplings. I take out all the time, and have never been disappointed.

This place is amazing. The general Tsos is to die for, huge portions, great friendly service. They don't have a lot of restaurants like this anymore. It has been around a long time and I hope it remains in business for a long time to come.

Nothing special. Portions are huge so be careful. When ordering fried rice the carrots weren't cut, sloppy job.

I have been eating/ordering from this place for more than 15 years. The food is great! And for portions are wonderful! The restaurant could use some upkeep/remodeling. But overall a great experience. The food is great and they have good service!

The Szechuan Palace is a bit like the Nick's Diner of Chinese restaurants. This place is not fancy but the prices are reasonable and the food is always good. We have been regular customers at both places for years. A few years ago they had a chef who used the same tired brown sauce on almost everything. That did not last long, fortunately, and for the past year or two the food has been excellent again. The portions are quite large and there is usually plenty left over to take home. There does not seem to be a dedicated wait staff any more. Much of their business is carry-out so there are not so many occupied tables. If you like good Chinese food check out the Szechuan Palace. This is not a majestic red place with gold dragons and a fancy menu. It is a great place for good food at a good price. Besides, many of the fancy dragon places are elegant but their food is not that good.

Their pork fried rice is the best I've found in the whole DMV area! Their food tastes great, and comes in giant portions. This is my favorite Chinese take out place.

HORRIBLE.... HORRIBLE.... HORRIBLE!!! Ok, wait, I forget to tell you how HORRIBLE this place is?!... I can only speak for the Lo Mein - When I picked up my order of Lo Mein, I thought I had CAME UP! They filled it up so full that they couldn't even close the package & they wrapped saran wrap around it to keep it together. I COULD NOT WAIT to get home to dig in! I just KNEW that was going to be awesome. Finally got home, heavily anticipating the Lo Mein that had my mouth watering for the last 20 minutes on the ride home. Got a fork & a plate and began scooping the lo mein out on the plate. (It was still hot!) Opened my mouth, took a bite.......... ****MY HOPES CRASHED IN MOMENTS**** It was the absolute WORST lo mein I had ever had in my life. I had eaten overcooked roman noodles (3/$1) that tasted like Gourmet 5 star cuisine in comparison to this mess. I mean, I'm really not trying to be funny, but I wouldn't have given this stuff to my dog. Maybe their other dishes are better, but in my book, I must declare this place an.... #EPICFAIL!! I feel I have a duty to my fellow yelpers to give them the heads up on dishes like this, so they don't have to waste their cash & go to bed hungry like I did! I suffered, so you don't have to! You've been warned!

Completely unresponsive management. Ordered for the first time last week, good size order, BIG tip for delivery. Most of the order was very good. Peking Shrimp had a sauce that was basically water - some ingredient(s) must have been left out. Called immediately and told I would get a credit. Called twice since and left message for the manager to call me - no call, no credit, no response. There are too many OTHER good choices in the area to put up with this nonsense. Otherwise I would have probably been a regular. Shame on you Szechuan Palace!!!

I just got my lunch special (general tso's Chicken with wonton soup for $6.21 out the door). The fried rice doesn't have any vegetables or eggs in it! Also, wonton soup doesn't have meat in the wonton. Good thing was the flavor of the General Tso's. I'll give it another try. Thank you.

I have regularly ordered delivery from here over the past 8 years. However, the last time I ate their food, it made me sick. So, it's been awhile. The other day I was craving Peking Duck, so I decided to take another chance. The Peking Duck isn't the best I've ever had, but it's not bad. (I've eaten it in Beijing.) I also ordered the Singapore Noodles. That was pretty good. They do give you generous portions for the price. My craving for Peking Duck was satiated.

Cheap, huge serving sizes, fast delivery, decent food. Only four stars because after eating only half of my sweet-and-sour chicken, I feel like I ate a grease baby.

I didn't expect to be back so soon. LOL But my bf loved the hunan pork so we ended up getting some for lunch today. It was just as good as it was the first time around. Oh and I was able to take a picture of it this time before we devoured it. :) I decided to try the chicken wings with fries & mumbo sauce. The chicken wings were big! In addition, they were flavorful and I like how they don't dip them in batter before frying them. I think soon enough, they'll start recognizing my phone # when I call.

When you are looking for good chinese food in the Glenmont area this is your place. Tasty food, good size portions, reasonable prices, what more could you really ask for from a hole in the wall chinese food place? Don't let the decor turn you off. The staff is friendly, the food is high quality, and you will leave satisfied.

This place doesn't look like much inside or out but give it a try. The food you get definitely over shadows the decor and the lack of outdoor signage. Take a look at their lunch specials: nothing more than $5.50 for some huge portions of fried rice and entree. The Dragon & Phoenix (chicken and shrimp) had great shrimp and lots of veggies. Appetizers are solid: dumplings are from the store but the price is worth it (~$4 for 15 dumpling nuggets). I had the beef chow foon which was okay. The noodles were probably defrosting as they cooked it but it's a higher end dish that's not always offered by every restaurant. Make sure to pick up a PuPu platter app - taste great. You get a variety of 5 goodies for $4.95. Stop by this place!

This is the best General TSO sauce I've found in the area. It's the perfect amount of spice and sweetness. The fried shrimp are good but a tad greasy and no broccoli comes with the dish. The crab wonton filling was really good, but the phyllo dough or whatever they use was cooked wrong such that it had that chewy crunch with something wasn't reheated with water. I'm hoping we just bought those on a bad day. (update: nope, they're like that every time) All in all, I will be back because the General TSO sauce was the best I've tried in the area thus far :)

Now, I'm no foodie, so take this review with a grain of salt. I was driving with my girlfriend, and I felt the need, deep in my gut, for a gustatory challenge. I couldn't find anything else that looked decent, except for Szechuan Palace. We walked into the absolutely dead restaurant and sat down. It was about dinnertime on a Saturday, and there was one other couple in a seating area with a capacity for at least 75. Like a true 'merican, I ordered the General Tso's chicken and my girlfriend had Mongolian Beef. I'm not a religious man, but if I were, I know how Satan might tempt me. This chicken is among the most delicious things I've put in my mouth, and I haven't experienced any variation in the quality of said dish in the half dozen times I've ordered it since. In addition, the portion sizes are large for the price, and the location isn't too bad. If this were a 4/5 I probably wouldn't be bothered to write a review, but since it's worth 5 stars AND it's nearly deserted all the time, maybe my review can ensure that Szechuan Palace stays open as long as I don't have complete arterial blockage.

I was there yesterday and ordered the shrimp with hot garlic sauce and the shrimp fried rice, not to forget the steamed dumplings as an appetizer, and well it was the ultimate! The best Chinese food ever! I wouldn't go anywhere else! I live in Bethesda and make special trips to Glenmont in Wheaton just to dine at this fabulous restaurant! Don't hesitate! Go and enjoy an awesome meal for cheap!

Szechuan Palace may not be fancy or glamorous, but they cook well and are friendly. I used to live close by and would order a couple times a month, never had any issues. They give you a lot of food for the price of their dishes.

There is a reason that this restaurant does such a brisk carry out and only a limited eat in business. The food is consistent but not exceptional and the inside is tired and dated. However, I have been getting carry out here for years and the almost never get the order wrong. The food is always ready when promised. The servings are large and the prices are pretty low. Sometimes, one gets a craving for bad Chinese food. I had one of those today.... I ate at Szechuan Palace and had the lunch special. It was standard crappy General's chicken, like every other Americanized Chinese place I've gone to. The fried rice was really bad. I know that good fried rice is made from old rice, but this stuff was REALLY old. I think it was made into fried rice several days ago and the served to me. There are a few upsides to this place. The meat was relatively fresh and there was a good crunch. A lot of places will serve it soggy. There was also a lot of food for the price. I got two meals out of the chicken and the whole bill was 5 dollars. I ate bad Chinese food today, only so that I could be reminded why I don't like it. This will happen again in about a month, and I'll probably go back to this same place because it's cheap and I'll get a lot of food.

I buy the $9 friend rice and keep it in my fridge for 5 to 7 days. They give a lot of food. Don't be fooled by the area (Glenmont Shopping Center) or the decor. This place is a great deal if you are looking for Chinese food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
